Samantha Slater Studio: An Artist's Journey from Ephemeral Performance to Permanent Metalwork

My creative journey began on the stage, rooted in the world of theater and dance. While I loved the energy of performance, I eventually found myself searching for an art form with more permanence—a medium that would endure long after the final curtain call.

It wasn't until I left South Africa and immigrated to the United States that jewelry making found me. While waiting for my green card, unable to work and desperately needing a creative outlet to fill my days, a friend showed me the basics of the craft on a whim. It was love at first sight. I spent those quiet months immersing myself in various techniques, and once I was able to enter the workforce, I immediately sought out the local jewelry community.

For over 20 years, I have worked within the industry and taught jewelry making classes across Seattle. After a decade spent working for other companies, I realized it was time to fully commit to my own artistic vision. While my jewelry line has had various incarnations and features over the years, it was in 2018 that my vision finally crystallized, and Samantha Slater Studio was formally born.

Meaningful Curiosities & Unconventional Design

My work is designed to be unlike anything you’ve ever seen. I create handmade, unconventional sculptural metalwork conceived as meaningful curiosities, rich with deep symbolism and personal narrative.

My design influences are woven from my own history: deeply rooted in my formative years in South Africa and drawing inspiration from the stark beauty of the desert and Mediterranean landscapes. This heritage is channeled into the overall aesthetic of my pieces, often anchored by my signature, dynamic vintage brass snake chain. This material is known for its fluid movement and rich texture.

Craftsmanship Rooted in Community

Samantha Slater Studio is built on the qualities I value most: Community, Transparency, Authenticity, and Hard Work, all grounded in a deep environmental and political consciousness.

My mission is twofold: to offer impeccably well crafted, handmade jewelry and to provide a safe, inclusive environment for others to learn the craft. When you support this studio, you are supporting a commitment to the art of metalsmithing and to building a better, more authentic community.
